probably a very stupid question but do you find being that high up on the neck awkward feeling? I have a had time squeezing my fingers like that together and still hitting notes accurately.
It will be at first, but you'll get used to it! Make sure to learn your scales within a key, and when you do, be sure to practice them on the high frets too. It'll make learning solos way easier.

2:54 Kalmah's Sanctimonium's whole structure is based on this downpicking, but it comes to the forefront later in the song and I always try to play along. Amazing to see it done here. Nice work. Inspiring. Not sure how to achieve that speed yet
